STORYLINE

You play as a small tiefling child named Elara who lives in a small cabin in the woods with her adoptive father, Kuno.

Elara owns a few personal items! As the player is presented the choice to choose which one they’d like to interact with, they get to play through that particular segment of her memory

(in return, learning more about her life)

Throughout each memory, players will be given options with how they interact between characters and the environment around them as it impacts Elara as a person and the state of the item itself.

Items:

  1. A doll: You can tell this is really old but something dear to her. Choosing this item will bring the player through the memory of when she used to live in her old village as a baby before it was all destroyed
  2. A drawing: Choosing this item will take the player through the memory of Kuno finding Elara after the village's destruction, as they face an attack together and solidify their connection through shared challenges.
  3. A Necklace: You can see a bright red gem on the necklace. Choosing this item reveals Elara's inner conflict between mercy and vengeance, as she grapples with her past choices and the path forward.

HOW IT WORKS

Item-Based Memories: Players unlock key memories from Elara’s past by interacting with significant objects like a doll, necklace, or drawing. Each object leads to a memory sequence, where players make impactful choices that influence not only the narrative but also the condition of the objects, mirroring the emotional consequences of their decisions.

Memory Influence: Choices made within these memory sequences leave lasting impressions on Elara, shaping her responses to challenges, emotional reactions, and relationship with Kuno. Each decision deepens her perception of the past, molding how the story evolves and revealing different sides of her character.

Diverging Endings: The player's decisions determine the outcome of Elara’s journey, as seen in the altered state of each item after reliving the memory. If Elara confronts her fears and strengthens her bond with Kuno, the game concludes with a peaceful dream. Alternatively, choices driven by fear or anger lead to a somber nightmare, marking a darker end to her story.

GAME PREVIEW

Interactive Cutscenes: these memory sequences are semi-interactive. Players can make dialogue or action-based choices during critical moments, which affect how Elara emotionally responds to her past, Kuno, and her identity.

Point-and-Click Mechanics: The world itself functions through point-and-click navigation, similar to many visual novels.

  • I really love that the game tells an emotionally profound story through a simple visual novel, between Elara and her adoptive father Kuno. The relationship between them really moved me. The game's choice system makes every decision feel important. I like the design of each memory having a different ending, it really makes me curious about the possible choices and seeing the various possible endings. Although the game is still in development, it already demonstrates great emotional power, especially its delicate depiction of character growth. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product! Also, your brief is really shocking to me. The background display in the form of illustrations and the elements of the starry sky made me feel very mysterious and attracted!

  • The way you presented this game pitch is so good, honestly got me super hooked and excited to see how the game developed. Everything is so very well planned that I really can’t give you any feedback. What I really love about this presentation would have to be your thumbnails and storyboarding. Personally, I really love looking at the behind the scenes of everything, so that part of the presentation is so very well done.

  • Such an amazing overall design. The story and art is very strong, I believe with time and more playtesting, you'd be able to create a reason for the players to care about the MC and her story. Definitely keep playing around with the different possibilities that are available for the players to end with. I wonder if there are reward systems in the game, it would make the play feel more accomplished maybe?

Joyboy

  • rich rich story, I'm curious if ambient sounds can be added to help draw in the player to your world. This could look like recorded footsteps playing as the player walks, or the sound of wind blowing outside a window, or the occasional howl of a wolf or summin. This could also be synths playing that correlate to the mood of the scene / moment

Ally

  • I like how everything is detailed and lets us know the progress of creating the game. I really look forward to the story that will be told. The art(character and Background) is also matching very well while drawn by different artists.

Emma (Professor)

  • Very well done. You seem to know what you're doing and have confidence
  • Maybe add an ambiguous option? More of a suggestion then anything
